NAKC-1986

Before NASKA and NBL exsisted the PKL from the early 80's til the mid 90's.  In
1986 Budweiser sponsored a curcuit called NAKC which stood for North American Kararte Conference.  The curcuit consisted of 6 events: 1. Pan Americans in Miami, FL.   2. Bluegrass Nationals in Lousville, Kentucky 3: Ed Parker's Long Beach Internationals  in California 4: Liberty Classics in Madison Square Garden, New York, NY.  5: Ivy League Open in Rhode Island 6:  Ohio Championships.   These events gave ou
t $50,000 in prize money, yes $50,000.
$2,500 was awarded to the Grand Champion Men and Women fighter's.   $1,250 went to the Runner-Up and $750 went to the Kata Grand Champions
.  Sport Karate was at it's all time highest with the prize money, an event  in Madison Square Garden (not where the animals are stored like in 2000) and Ed Parkers Internationals on ESPN. The top team fighting teams were Budweiser National Karate Team (Tribute to Budweiser coming soon) Miami Vice National Karate Team,  MAO-C Cuban American Team, Sherman Oaks Raiders and at the end the NAKC team was formed with Nasty Anderson and Mafia Holloway.  Budweiser's sponsorship  pulled out after only 1 year which  put an end to the NAKC Curcuit.   It also ended the Budweiser Team after only 2 years.  The reason Budweiser pulled out was because someone inside was stealing $10,000 per event.  It was 1986,  almost 20 years ago and the sport was well on it's way to becoming a mainstream sport.  Who knows where the sport would be if  that money wasn't being stolen.  It's 2005 and the sport is making a push again,  but can Sport Karate ever make it mainstream?

A Picture of the NAKC will be up soon and so will Stories on Team Budweiser,
Miami Vice(1986) Sherman Oaks Raiders and the MAO-C Cuban American Team Coached by Manny Reyes Sr. so stay Tuned!
